The World Affairs Council of America - California Central Coast has established a Scholarship Program in order to:

  • Promote the study of international affairs and foreign policy issues in local high schools, colleges, and universities;

  • Provide financial aid to one or more high school or college students in our region;

  • Promote awareness of the WACA-CCC and fulfill its mission to enhance
    awareness of world affairs locally.

One or more high school senior or community college students will be competitively selected each year for financial assistance of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) each.

Eligibility: To be eligible the candidate should be:

  • A high school senior or community college student in Ventura County or the adjacent counties served by the WACA – CCC, and intending to attend college or university in the area served by WACA – CCC. This would include California Lutheran University, CSU Channel Islands, Pepperdine University, U.C. Santa Barbara, Ventura College, Oxnard College, and Moorpark College.

  • Entering an undergraduate field of study in political science, international relations, global business, public policy, or related area.

Final selection of the winner/s of the World Affairs Council California Central Coast Scholarship shall be performed by the Executive Board of WACA –CCC. Selection will be based upon an essay on personal goals and career aspirations, academic performance, and faculty recommendations.

The number of scholarships awarded shall be determined each year prior to the judging by the WACA-CCC Directors based upon funds available.

Procedure

The selection of the winner/s of the World Affairs Council of America - Central California Coast Scholarship shall be made by the Council’s Executive Board. Selection will be based upon an essay on educational goals, academic performance, faculty recommendations, and, as determined, need.

1. Applications must be submitted by June 1st. Electronic submission of applications is encouraged.

2. Applications should include:

  • a letter of application,
  • an essay on educational and career goals, not to exceed 500 words,
  • one letter of recommendation and the name
  • evidence of upcoming college and university study and access to other information when requested.

3. Applications will be reviewed by:

  • the Scholarship Committee of WACA-CCC who will select the top three applicants, based upon its review of the application materials. The Committee may schedule an interview with candidates. Criteria for review include educational and career goals, academic performance, and faculty recommendations.

  • The Executive Board of WACA – CCC will make the final determination.

4. The number scholarships awarded will depend upon available funds.

5. Awards will be presented at a WACA-CCC event prior to the beginning of the school year.
